is another source and one of the most
important sources of Research and Development funding
for small business. Through the Small Business Innovation
Research (SBIR) program over $2 billion is set aside
each year to fund R & D efforts that coincide with
research areas of interest to the federal government.
The Maine Procurement Technical Assistance
Center can put you in touch with SBIR solicitations
as they are released, or you can do a key word search
at the National Science foundation (NSF) funded site
http://www.sbirworld.com.
Maine PTAC can work with you to help you understand
the SBIR program and how your company can benefit from
it.
A new funding program called the Defense
Acquisition Challenge Program (DACP) was set up to help
test new products and technologies that could readily
be incorporated into an existing DOD acquisition program.
The DACP solicitation is released during the first quarter
of the year and may be the ideal avenue for your business
to propose innovative and cost-saving technologies to
existing DOD programs.
Another way that the federal government
procures cutting edge technology is through the release
of Broad Agency Announcements (BAA) or Program Announcements
(PA). BAA’s and PA’s are released at whatever
time the particular federal agency has a need. Therefore,
your company will need to be set up to receive these
announcements as they are released. Maine PTAC can help
you get set up to receive these notices.
